ABOUT

Letisia Cruz is a Cuban-American writer and artist. She is the author of The Lost Girls Book of Divination (Tolsun Books, 2018). Her poetry manuscript Migrations & Other Exiles was awarded the 2022 Idaho Prize for Poetry and is forthcoming  in 2023 from Lost Horse Press. She is the recipient of a 2022 artist grant from the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance and was selected as a 2022 Dali Dozen Emerging Artist Exhibition participant for her project Rituales: An Exploration of Faith in the Caribbean.

Her writing and artwork have appeared in [PANK], Ninth Letter, The Acentos Review, Gulf Stream, Saw Palm, Third Coast, Duende, Moko Caribbean Arts & Letters, 300 Days of Sun, Black Fox Literary Magazine, Ink Brick, and Sakura Review, among others. Her work has been previously selected as a finalist for the 2021 Sexton Prize for Poetry, the 2018 Digging Press Chapbook Series, and the 2016 Gazing Grain Chapbook Contest. 

 

She is a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University’s MFA program and a member of the Artist Enclave of Historic Kenwood (AEHK). She lives in St. Petersburg, Florida with her partner and their cats, plants and several hundred lizards.

Mis ilustraciones se representan principalmente en lápiz y tinta sobre papel. Me inspiran mujeres fuertes y pioneras que superan los límites, forjan sus propios caminos y definen por sí mismas lo que significa alcanzar el éxito. También me inspira la actitud de no tomar nada de la década de 1990 y la autoexpresión transformadora que se hizo posible a través del arte, la poesía y la música. Mi trabajo a menudo representa las mujeres tatuadas a caballo entre la luz y la oscuridad, mirando en su propio abismo, y la definición de su sentido de sí mismo. Gran parte de mi trabajo está impregnado de elementos de la naturaleza y se centra en las estaciones, el paso del tiempo,

y el tema del renacimiento.
